Carving at Waitangi
A Maori meeting house represents an important ancestor. The carvings at the front of the roof line represent the ancestor's head and arms, the beams inside represent the ribs, and ancestral stories are told through the carved vertical pillars and woven wall panels. At Waitangi, master carvers produced an exquisite meeting house representative of all regional tribes in New Zealand.
